Ov Sulfur Drop AI Video For "Wide Open" Ft Howard Jones; Release Debut Album, 'The Burden Ov Faith'

Today (March 24th), blackened deathcore outfit Ov Sulfur have unleashed their debut full-length, The Burden Ov Faith, via Century Media Records. For a preview of The Burden Ov Faith, check out the video for the album version of "Wide Open" (featuring Howard Jones!), which brought the OG video into the beautifully hellish world of the album cover using AI for a visualizer on steroids:

Guitarist/vocalist Chase Wilson comments: "Having Howard hop on the album version of 'Wide Open' was the best thing that could have happened. We knew we wanted the song on the album, but we also knew it needed new life to live alongside the rest of the songs and not just be tossed on there. It's crazy to us he wanted to work with us - less surprising is the fact he absolutely killed it. We just gave him the song and lyrics, and we let him do his thing. He really pushes the song to another level with both his screaming and singing. What a legend!"

Of the album, vocalist Ricky Hoover comments: "I'm beyond proud of what we've created on 'The Burden Ov Faith'. Who would have thought I would be screaming on new music over a decade after leaving Suffokate - let alone singing?! I legitimately didn't think I was ever coming back to music period when I left back in 2012, so to have an album out on one of the most respected labels in metal is mindblowing. Huge shout out to all my band mates and everyone who worked to create this with us - and everyone who takes time out of their life to listen!"

Crafted by the band alongside producer Morgoth Beatz (Winds of Plague, Scarlxrd), then mixed/mastered by maestro Josh Schroeder (Lorna Shore, Tallah), The Burden Ov Faith sees the two split engineering of vocals and drums, respectively, with former Machine Head guitarist Logan Mader stepping in to capture the guitars and bass. The resulting album spans the stygian planets of deathcore, black metal, and metalcore, creating something as majestic as it is hook-laden. It also finds vocalist Ricky Hoover exploring the singing side of his voice, which he'd developed over years in choir as a child and only now added to his impressive growls and screams on a metal album.

"Blackened deathcore feels like it's reaching its saturation point. Bands like Lorna Shore and Worm Shepherd have done the style so well that it can feel like there's nothing much to build on. Ov Sulfur offer a way forward. On 'Death ov Circumstance,' the band featuring ex-Suffokate vocalist Ricky Hoover add a dose of NWOAHM into their brew of symphonic atmospheres and blackened breakdowns. There's a dash of early Trivium guitarwork, a pinch of Killswitch Engage earnesty in the clean chorus, and a general embrace of melody over mindless brutality - without going soft. If you've been bored by deathcore lately, give this a go." - Revolver Magazine

"The arrival of ['The Burden Ov Faith'] marks an important uptick in the trajectory of the relatively new outfit. Since the band's formation just last year, their well-executed brand of blackened deathcore has resonated with fans with an affinity for extremity." - Knotfest

"With four singles already proving this band are ones to watch in deathcore - 'Wide Open', 'Stained In Rot', 'Death Ov Circumstance' and 'Earthen' - 2023 will not only set this band up for global domination, but once again highlight just how powerful and mesmerising the deathcore genre (and all sub-genres associated) is growing to be." - Wall Of Sound AU

"While many fine bands have released a black metal-metal/deathcore hybrid album, not since The Breathing Process released 'In Waking: Divinity' in 2007 have I been so excited for a record of this kind. The same magic I still feel with that album flows through me again with 'The Burden Ov Faith'. The appearance of so many great guest vocalists along with the band's stellar instrumentation is simply a complete package." - The Metal Mayan

"...Ov Sulfur will no doubt appeal to fans of Lorna Shore and Winds of Plague, but there's more to 'The Burden ov Faith' than a trendy cash-in. If blackened 'core needs a sing-along band, Ov Sulfur has effectively taken that role." - Metal Sucks
